About

The octagonal top with a spindle gallery and a gadrooned edge, the spiral fluted stem on foliate carved cabriole legs ending in claw-and-ball feet. With yellow crayon numerals along the inner brace probably indicating a Stair & Co provenance. Provenance: Property from the Estate of Georges Bemberg, New York City. Bemberg was a well known connoisseur and collector. Born into a wealthy Argentine banking and manufacturing family, he had homes in New York City, Paris and Buenos Aires. He established a museum in Toulouse for much of his collection (See www.foundation-bemberg.fr). Most of the collection in his New York City apartment came from top dealers and auction houses worldwide, including Stair & Co., Christie's and Sotheby's.
