#2080
The king shown wearing the trappings of power, carved wearing an armor, a cordon with the Order of the Golden Fleece, and the medal of the Order of the Holy Spirit pinned to his cloak. Signed and dated J.B. Lemoyne 1763. Presumably the bust given by Louis XV to the University of Montpellier. This bust is a smaller version of the 1757 one kept at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and probably commissioned by the Marquise de Pompadour. Two additional busts are kept at Versailles.
