#2091
Each in the form of an antique tripod topped with a pineapple finial, draped in floral swags and supported by three ram masks terminating in hoof feet, mounted on a triangular plinth, each side decorated with oval panels framing miniature paintings of castles and seascapes on paper. In the Adam style. Regilded.
These handsome and rare atheniennes were designed in the George III 'antique' fashion promoted by the Rome-trained court architect Robert Adam (d.1792), joint author of The Works in Architecture of Robert and James Adam, 1773-1777. The model is based on antique precedents which were used as ancient perfume burners or braziers. Our pieces serve a purely decorative purpose.
