The divided rectangular plate surmounted by a trophy cresting shaped as an urn flanked by flowering vases on each side and hung with pendant bellflower garlands. By its decoration and shape, this mirror reflects the new neo-classical got Grec style introduced in the 1750s by the architect Louis-Joseph Le Lorrain reacting against the whimsical 'rocaille'. Probably working in collaboration with a marchand-mercier such as Simon-Philippe Poirier, Le Lorrain's gout Grec style was first realized in the designs for the celebrated suite of furniture supplied for the Parisian hotel of the amateur Ange-Laurent Lalive de Jully circa 1755 - a desk part of this suite can be admired at the chateau de Chantilly.
