With a canted white marble rectangular top with a three-quarter pierced gallery above a frieze drawer, the fall-front with gilt-tooled black leather writing surface enclosing a fitted interior with open compartments and two long drawers above a central recess flanked by three short drawers on either side, above two doors opening to reveal shelves, the front corners headed by foliate and flowering bronzes above fluted columns in front and fluted pilasters in the back, and ending in toupie feet. Stamped under marble top twice \'I.L.Sotto\'. Jean Laurent Sotto or Sottot lived rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine between 1790 and 1799. It is possible that he only restored this piece which is of superb quality and craftsmanship, in its construction, the mahogany used and the bronzes.
